All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Behold, the virgin shall be with a child, and bear a Son, and they shall call his name Immanuel, which is translated, God with us.” Matthew 1:22-23
The birth of Jesus Christ as the Son of God through a virgin that was brought about through the Holy Ghost is the fulfillment of promises made by God. This promise, which has always been dismissed by doubters, was believed to be Christian mythology.
This is because the occurrence was too wondrous, a true miracle by God, and the only people who could believe this miracle are those that know God as the creator of all things and that He can work in wondrous ways or by supernatural means.
Over 750 years ago, Prophet Isaiah who has previously prophesied that God will give His people a sign through this miracle. The established it in Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
This fulfillment of this prophecy was an incomprehensible condescension of God Himself among men. God became man because this child was conceived through the Holy Spirit. Whoever denies the virgin birth of Jesus Christ also disputes that He is God, and thus attacks the foundation of the Christian faith.
At the command of the angel the child was named Jesus, Emmanuel is not therefore not His proper Name, but rather the expression of who this Son is: God and Man in one person. God with us. Only in this way could He become the “mediator between God and men” 1 Timothy 2:5, the “seed of the woman” as God has announced immediately after the fall of man in the garden of Eden. Genesis 3:15
The humility and sublime majesty were displayed here simultaneously, all of us that that is Redeemed knows that this is the starting point of their salvation, we bow down in worship the Son of God, this inexplicable miracle, and hold firmly unto Him through faith.
That is the essence of the celebration of Christmas, it is about the miraculous birth of the only begotten Son and the belief of Christians in Him.
